Rachelle Heyboer Receives All-Central Region Softball Honors
Calvin College sophomore Rachelle Heyboer has been named to the NCAA Division
III All-Central Region third team in softball by the National Fastpitch Coaches
Association.
A native of Fremont and a graduate of Fremont High School, Heyboer sparkled as
a pitcher for the Calvin softball team this spring, compiling an 11-5 pitching
record along with three saves and a 1.79 ERA. Heyboer appeared in 20 games
this spring and started 14. She was credited with 11 complete games and four
shutout victories. Heyboer also struck out 58 batters and walked just 18 in
105.2 innings of work.
Earlier this spring, Heyboer was named to the All-MIAA first team and was
named the MIAA's inaugural Defensive Player of the Year. In 34 total
fielding chances this spring, Heyboer committed just one error for a fielding
percentage of .971.
Heyboer was also a solid contributor at the plate for the Knights this spring
as she collected a batting average of .324, going 12-for-37 at the plate with
seven RBI's and five runs scored.
Heyboer is the first Calvin softball player to receive All-Central Region
honors since 2001 when Rhonda Volkers received third team honors.
Calvin finished the year with a 24-13 overall record and tied for second with
Albion and Olivet in the final MIAA standings. Calvin took second in the MIAA
regular season standings with a 10-4 record and then took fourth at the
four-team MIAA Tournament. Calvin's overall record this year was its finest
since the 1997 season when it finished 28-15 and gained a share of the final
MIAA championship
