JEREMY VEENSTRA NAMED TO NABC DIVISION III GREAT LAKES ALL-REGION FIRST TEAM
For the third straight year, Calvin senior forward Jeremy Veenstra has been
named to the Great Lakes All-Region first team by the National Association of
Basketball Coaches.
A native of Kalamazoo and a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School,
Veenstra is joined on the Great Lakes All-Region first team by Bryan Nelson of
Wooster, Shawn McKormick of Baldwin-Wallace, Don Overbeek of Hope, Nate Mauer
of Grove City College and Jim Conrad of Ohio Northern.
Nelson was then named to the NABC Division III All-America first team while
McCormick was named to the second team All-America squad.
In addition, Steve Moore of Wooster was named the Great Lakes Regional Coach of
the Year. Veenstra averaged 16.6 points and 7.6 rebounds a game this year. He
was also selected to the All-MIAA first team for the fourth straight year,
becoming just
the sixth individual in MIAA men's basketball history to do so. Veenstra
finished third on the Calvin career scoring list with 1,947 points. He also
finished second in rebounds (897), third in assists (329) and fourth in blocked
shots (124).
Calvin finished the year 16-11 overall and tied for third in the MIAA regular
season standings at 7-5. Calvin then reached the MIAA Tournament semifinals
where it was defeated by Hope 81-80 in overtime.
