    CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR MARCH 21, 2003
    MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
    Using a pair of All-America performances and a pair of honorable mention All-America citations, Calvin climbed into 11th place at the NCAA III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Friday night at Emory University.
    The highlight of the evening for the Calvin men came in the 800 freestyle relay as the quartet of senior Ryan Johnson (Grand Haven High School), junior Brad White (Traverse City), senior A.J. Penninga (Grand Rapids Christian High School) and sophomore Peter Boumgarden (Naperville, IL) took fourth with a school record time of 6:49.16. The finish is the highest ever by a Calvin men's relay team at the national meet.
    Boumgarden also went on to earn All-America honors in the 100 butterfly for the second straight year as he clocked a sixth place time of 50.06. In addition, Penninga earned honorable mention All-America recognition in the 200 freestyle as he took 13th with a time of 1:42.15. In the 200 medley relay, the Calvin team of White, sophomore Ryan Preston (Richmond, IN), Boumgarden and Johnson took 14th with a time of 1:35.02 for another honorable mention All-America effort.
    Calvin is now in 11th place with 74 points, five points behind 10th place Kalamazoo.
    "We had a very solid day and I am pleased with our performance," said Calvin swim coach Dan Gelderloos. "We'd like to get as close as we can to the top 10 but to do so, we'll have to finish strong tomorrow."
    Scheduled to compete for Calvin tomorrow are White, Johnson and Penninga in the 100 freestyle, Boumgarden in the 200 butterfly and White, Johnson, Penning and Boumgarden in the 400 freestyle relay.

    WOMEN'S COLLEGE TENNIS

    Calvin dropped to 1-2 on the year with a 9-0 loss to regionally-ranked University of the South Friday morning. The Knights are scheduled to play one final match in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The match will be played Saturday morning, weather permitting.

Downpours throughout the morning forced game officials at the Osceola Softball Complex to cancel all of the day's games. The Knights were scheduled to play UW-Superior and Springfield (Mass.).
