Calvin tennis teams play through rain showers in Hilton Head

    CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR MARCH 19, 2003

    MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TENNIS

    HILTON HEAD, SC -- Playing through inclement weather, the Calvin men's and
    women's tennis teams were able to complete their first matches of the week on
    Wednesday. On the men's side, Calvin improved to 3-1 on the year with a 6-1
    win over Principia and a 9-0 win over Concordia of Wisconsin. The Calvin women
    suffered their first defeat of the year, falling to Carthage 8-1. The Knights
    were then in a nip-and-tuck battle with Wisconsin-LaCrosse Wednesday afternoon
    when rain haulted play. The completion of the Calvin/Wisconsin-LaCrosse match
    is unlikely according to head coach Jerry Bergsma because of more rain in the
    upcoming forecast this week.

    The Calvin women are scheduled to take on Richard Stockton of New Jersey on
    Thursday afternoon while the Calvin men are slated to take on East Stroudsburg
    State at 8:00 a.m. and then may attempt to squeeze in a makeup match or two
    later in the afternoon, weather permitting.
