CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2002
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
A pair of fast-break field goals from junior Kim Wolthuis down the stretch
allowed Calvin to hold on for a 64-59 victory over cross-town rival Aquinas
Wednesday evening at the Calvin Fieldhouse.
The Knights will now carry a 6-2 record into a three-game trip through Southern
California over Christmas break. The victory was also Calvin's second of the
year over Aquinas and its sixth in its last eight tries. With its 6-2 record,
Calvin is off to its best start since the 1998-99 season when it won seven of
its first eight games of the season.
Calvin led 34-27 at halftime and stretched its lead to nine points at 45-36
with 11:46 remaining on a jumper from senior forward Emily Beard (Southfield

within two points at 46-44 and then to within a point at 58-57 with 1:45
remaining. Wolthuis then split a pair of free throws seconds later to put the
Knights up 59-57.

to go. After Aquinas split a pair of free throws with 59 seconds left, Calvin
broke a full-court Aquinas press, leaving Wolthuis all alone for another fast
break bucket that put the Knights up 63-58 with 51 seconds to play. A free

Rita Ouwinga (McBain Christian High School) with 31 seconds left closed out the
scoring as the Knights held on the for win.
