    CALVIN WEEKEND SPORTS WRAP-UP FOR NOVEMBER 22/23, 2002

    MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

    Both Calvin teams picked up MIAA dual meet victories at Albion Saturday as the
    Calvin men defeated Albion 108.5-86.5 while the Calvin women topped the Britons
    127-115. The Calvin men are now 4-3 in dual meet competition while the Calvin
    women are 5-3.

    In the men's dual meet, Calvin took first place in seven events with senior A.J.
    Penninga (Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Peter Boumgarden (Naperville, IL)
    claiming double victories on the afternoon. Penninga was a winner in the 200
    butterfly (2:01.52) and 500 freestyle (4:53.15) while Boumgarden took home a
    blue ribbon in the 50 freestyle (23.19) and 100 freestyle (49.41). Other
    individual winners for the Knights included freshman Luke Bagnall (Marshalltown,
    IA) in the 200 IM (2:05.95) and senior Ryan Johnson (Grand Haven HS) in the 200
    backstroke (2:06.33. Calvin's 200 medley relay team of John, sophomore Ryan
    Preston (Richmond, IN), Boumgarden and junior Jon Young (Calvin Christian HS)
    also posted a first place time of 1:41.60.

    In the women's competition, Calvin took first place in six events. Senior Anne
    Kuiper (Houghton HS) was a double-winner for the Knights, taking first place in
    the 200 IM (2:18.33) and 200 breaststroke (2:34.18) with season-best efforts.
    Senior Katie Nagelkirk (Holland Christian HS) was also a double-winner for the
    Knights, winning the 50 freestyle (25.07) and 100 freestyle (55.18). In
    addition, freshman Abby Johnson (Grand Haven HS)picked up a win for the Knights
    in the 200 freestyle (2:00.13). CAlvin's 200 freestyle relay of freshmen Jen
    Kool (Holland Chirstian HS), Lynn Visser (Jenison HS), senior Jenny Los (Holland
    Christian HS) and junior Brittney Stevens (Mankato, MN) closed out the meet with
    a first place time of 1:45.38.

    Both Calvin teams return to action on December 6 and 7 when they compete at the
    Eastern Michigan Invitational.
