    VanderPloeg and Tucker Receive MIAA Player of the Week Honors

    A pair of Calvin College seniors have received MIAA Player of the Week honors
    in their respective fall sports. In women's soccer, senior goaltender Leah
    VanderPloeg has been named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for the second time
    in her career. In volleyball, senior setter Laura Tucker has been named MIAA
    Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

    A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Unity Christian High School,
    VanderPloeg collected 20 saves and allowed just one goal in 200 minutes of
    action last week as the Knights defeated Olivet 3-0 on Wednesday and then
    battled St. Mary's to a 1-1 double-overtime tie on Saturday. The only goal
    scored against VanderPloeg was on a penalty kick in Saturday's contest at St.
    Mary's. On the season, VanderPloeg has 85 saves and a goals-against-average
    of 1.39. She recently became the all-time leader in Calvin women's soccer
    history in career saves. Heading into this week, VanderPloeg has 364 saves in
    her career. She also gained her 17th career shutout in Wednesday's victory at
    Olivet, ranking her third on the Calvin career list.
    Tucker is from Holland and is a graduate of Holland Christian High School.

    In a four-game victory over Hope Wednesday night, Tucker tossed out 60 assists
    and was credited with eight digs, five blocks and two kills. Her assist total
    was the second-highest single-match total of her collegiate career. Tucker is
    averaging 13.11 assists-per-game this year and is among the nation's leaders
    in assists-per-game average.

    Ranked eighth in the latest Great Lakes regional poll, the Calvin women's
    soccer team returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Kalamazoo at 4:00 p.m..
    The Knights are currently 7-3-1 overall and in second place in the MIAA
    standings with a 4-1-1 league mark. The Calvin women's volleyball team
    returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Alma at 6:30 p.m. at the Calvin
    Fieldhouse in a showdown for first place in the MIAA standings. Calvin is
    currently 14-5 overall and 6-1 in the MIAA. Alma is currently 15-6 overall and
    7-0 in the MIAA.

    REAL AUDIO SCHEDULE FOR UPCOMING WEEK

    The Calvin sports information department will broadcast three Calvin athletics
    events via real audio this week beginning with a women's soccer game against
    Kalamazoo Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.. On Wednesday, the women's volleyball
    match against Alma will be broadcast at 6:30 p.m.. On Saturday, the women's
    soccer team will again be featured as the Knights host Hope at noon.
