CALVIN SPORTS REPORT for October 7th
MEN'S GOLF
Calvin's men's golf team hosted the sixth MIAA outing at the Watermark Golf
Course today. The Knights used their home-field advantage to win the tournament
with a team score of 311. Current MIAA leader, Olivet, was close behind with a
score of 313 and Hope College took third for the outing with a 316. The Scots
of Alma College turned in a round of 317, and then came Albion, who shot a 324
for the day. Adrian finished in sixth place with 326 strokes and Kalamazoo
rounded out the field with a 365.
Calvin was led by senior Mike Sherman (Grand Rapids Christian) who shot a
stellar 75 and took second place overall. Fellow senior Tony Karsten (Holland
Christian) recorded a front nine score of 33 and finished the day at 76, earning
second place for the Knights and tied for third place overall. Third best for
the Knights went to junior Matt Kelly (Western Michigan Christian) who took 78
strokes to finish the course and tied for seventh place overall. The final two
spots were filled by junior Ryan Brandsma (Timothy Christian) and sophomore Mike
Bratt (Lynden Christian), who each shot an 82.
Medalist for the tournament went to Hope's Jeff Melville who shot an
impressive 74.
After today's showing, the Knights trail Alma College by one stroke for third
place in the overall standings. The final of seven MIAA tournaments will be
played this Thursday at the Wuskowhan Players Club, home course of Hope College,
with tee time at noon.
