Erinn Boot Named First Team Verizon Academic All-American in Cross
    Country/Track & Field

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - For the second straight year, Calvin College senior Erinn
Boot has been named a Verizon Academic All-American. A year ago, Boot was named
a third team Verizon Academic All-American for cross country at the college
division. This year, Boot has been named a first team Verizon Academic
All-American in the newly created cross country/track and field college
    division.

Boot is from Kalamazoo and is a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School.
Boot recently graduated with a major in biochemistry and a minor in
    psychology.

Boot carried a 3.86 grade point average and plans to attend medical school.
Boot is an eight-time member of the Calvin Dean's List, a four-time recipient of
the College Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic award and a
three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

A three-time first team All-MIAA and Great Lakes All-Region selection in cross
country, Boot took first at the MIAA Championships this fall with a time of
18:38. Her finish helped the Knights record a first place team score of 17
points. Boot then took second at the Great Lakes Regional to help the Knights
post a first place team score of 26 points. At the NCAA III Championships on
November 17, she took 64th with a time of 18:18. Boot was also a member of
Calvin's 1998 and 1999 national championship teams, serving as the team's first
alternate at the 1998 national meet and then finishing 50th at the 1999 NCAA III
Championships as she served as Calvin's all-important fifth runner.

She then earned a spot on the All-MIAA track and field team for the second time
in her career this spring after winning the 1,500 meters at the league
championships with a time of 4:47.61 as she helped Calvin captured its 13th
consecutive MIAA track and field title. During the 2002 outdoor track and field
season, Boot posted NCAA III provisional qualifying times in the 1,500, 5,000
    and 10,000 meter runs.

Calvin has now had its athletes recognized as Verizon Academic All-Americans 50

times including 24 times in the last four years. In addition, it marks the
fourth consecutive year that a member of the Calvin women's cross country team
has received Verizon Academic All-America honors.
