    REPORT FOR April 15, 2002

    SOFTBALL

For the first time in her collegiate career, Calvin College freshman Rachelle
Heyboer has been named MIAA Pitcher of the Week. A native of Fremont and a
graduate of Fremont High School, Heyboer tossed her second consecutive no-hitter
last Thursday in leading Calvin to a 4-0 conference victory over Oiivet.

In the victory, Heyboer struck out six batters without a walk. Olivet placed
just two runners on base in the loss - both reaching on Calvin errors. The
no-hitter was the first by a Calvin pitcher in MIAA play since Shauna Koolhaas
achieved the feat in 1997 and the 23rd overall no-hit performance in a
conference game in MIAA softball history. Calvin then went on to complete the
doubleheader sweep with an 8-1 win over Olivet in the nightcap.

The doubleheader sweep lifted Calvin's overall record to 12-8 and its MIAA mark
to 2-2. Heyboer's no-hitter came on the heels of a no-hit gem against Franklin
College of Indiana April 6. A right-hander, Heyboer is now 6-4 on the year with
a 2.51 earned run average. She also has 38 strikeouts on the year against just
    eight walks.

Calvin opens a busy week of action this afternoon when it hosts Wheaton College
of Illinois in a non-conference doubleheader slated to start at 3:30 p.m..
Calvin will then journey to Adrian on Tuesday for a conference twinbill
scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.. Calvin will continue conference play on
Thursday when it hosts Kalamazoo in a double-dip at 3:30 p.m.. and will then
host Hope Saturday in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m..

Calvin was scheduled to host Saginaw Valley State Wednesday in a non-conference
twinbill but the doubleheader has been cancelled and will not be made up. The
doubleheader was cancelled due to conference scheduling obligations by Saginaw
    Valley State.
