BASEBALL
For the fourth time in his career, Calvin senior Mike Ott has been named MIAA
Pitcher of the Week.
A native of Grand Rapids, Ott played his high school ball at Grand Rapids Union
High School while attending Grand Rapids City High School. This past weekend,
Ott helped Calvin to a three-game conference sweep of visiting Albion as he
tossed a four-hit complete game victory in a 3-1 win over the Britons Friday
afternoon. Calvin continued on to defeat Albion 3-1 and 11-2 Saturday to
complete the series sweep.
In Friday's win over Albion, Ott battled through temperatures in the
mid-30's to strike out 10 batters without a walk in nine innings of work.
He also sparkled defensively in the contest, collecting nine assists which
included throwing out a runner at the plate attempting to score on a suicide
squeeze bunt and picking off a runner at first base.
In picking up the victory over Albion Friday, Ott boosted his season record to
4-2 and his career record to 14-13. It also marked the 12th complete-game
pitching performance of his collegiate career. A 6-0 right-hander, Ott has a
season earned run average of 3.72 including 3.00 in conference games.
Calvin is currently 14-6 overall and 6-0 in the MIAA. The Knights will carry a
seven-game win streak into a home contest Wednesday afternoon against Manchester
