    DIII News Honors Veenstra

Post-season honors continue to roll in for junior forward Jeremy Veenstra as
the Kalamazoo native has been named a third team All-American by DIII News, a
publication devoted to NCAA III men's basketball. It marks the third
All-America team that Veenstra has been named to this post-season as he was
named to the D3hoops.com All-America fourth team and to the NABC Division III
All-America second team this past March.

A graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School, Veenstra was named the MIAA's
MVP in men's basketball for the second straight year this past season. He
currently ranks sixth on the all-time Calvin scoring list with 1,498 career
    points.

Deters Named MIAA Pitcher of the Week

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - A standout MIAA debut has allowed Calvin College freshman
Jim Deters to receive MIAA Pitcher of the Week accolades for the first time in
    his career.

A native of Portage and a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School, Deters A
native of Portage and a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School, Deters
picked up his second complete-game victory of his career as he scattered three
hits over nine innings of work. Deters also established a career-high in
strikeouts as he struck out 15 Comets on the afternoon, surpassing his
13-strikeout total earlier this year in a 4-0 shutout win over Wittenberg
University. The 15-strikeout performance by Deters is the third highest
single-game performance in MIAA history, surpassed only by a 16-strikeout
performance by Hope's Kevin Kittle against Calvin in 1999, and a 17-strikeout
performance by Alma's Al Goetz against Olivet in 1983.

A 6-4 righthander, Deters (3-1) struck out six of the first seven batters he
faced and did not allow a hit until the seventh inning when the Comets (8-5
overall, 0-3 MIAA) scored their only run of the game.

In overall games this year, Deters leads the Calvin pitching staff in
strikeouts (41) and is tied for the team-lead in pitching victories. He is also
second on the staff with a 3.23 earned run average and has allowed just 25 hits
    in 30.2 innings of work.

The 2-1 win over Olivet Monday afternoon allowed the Knights to sweep the
three-game series with the Comets as they had defeated Olivet 7-4 and 3-1 in a
Saturday doubleheader. At 3-0 in the MIAA, Calvin currently shares first place
in the league standings with Adrian, one game ahead of third place Albion
    (2-1).

Calvin (11-6 overall) will carry a four-game win streak into a conference game
with Albion Friday afternoon at home. Friday's nine-inning game is scheduled
to begin at 4:00 p.m.. The two teams will then close out the series with a
Saturday doubleheader at Calvin slated to start at 1:00 p.m..
