    MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD

AUBURN, AL * The Calvin men's and women's track and field teams closed out their
spring trips down south by competing at the Auburn Invitational Saturday
    afternoon.

Both teams had a number of excellent performances with sophomore Katie Corner of
Grand Rapids Catholic Central highlighting the day as she shattered the school
record in the discus throw for the second time this year, finishing second in
the event with an NCAA III provisional qualifying performance of 138-1,
shattering her own school mark of 134-6 set the week before at the Samford
Invitational. Corner put together a sensational series of throws as she
uncorked three throws that bettered her previous school record including two
    tosses at exactly 138-1.

Corner was part of a strong Calvin contingent in the weight events as junior

throw of 39-5 ¼ while Corner was sixth at 38-8 ¾. In the javelin, senior Liz
Blevins (Marion) was third with a throw of 107-3 while sophomore Lindsay Campbel

was Calvin's top performer, placing 11th with a throw of 138-1.

Corner was one of three individuals on the Calvin women's team to post NCAA III
provisional qualifying efforts Saturday as senior Rachel Veltkamp (Grand Rapids
Christian) took first in the pole vault with an NCAA III provisional qualifying
mark of 11-6 while freshman Laura Hamilton (Downers Grove, IL) took third in the
400 meter hurdles with a provisional qualifying time of 1:04.82. In addition,
both Calvin relay teams on the women's side posted NCAA III provisional
qualifying marks as its 4 x 100 meter relay team took sixth with a provisional
qualifying mark of 48.81 while its 4 x 400 meter relay team took sixth with a
    provisional qualifying mark of 3:58.23.

Junior Annie VanderLaan (Grand Rapids Christian) was also strong for the Knights
as she just missed a provisional qualifying time in taking ninth in the 100
    meter hurdles (15.23).

In the 5,000 meters, Calvin came up with a 3-4-5-6-7 finish with senior Erinn
Boot (Kalamazoo Christian) leading the pack with a third place time of 18:21.22.
In the 3,000 meters, junior Jodi VerMeulen (Holland Christian) was the top
finisher for the Knights, placing fifth with a time of 10:41.95.

first in the event with a time of 3:56.02 while sophomore Hendrik Kok (Lynden,
WA) was 2nd in 3:46.44. The NCAA III provisional qualifying time is 3:56.00.

9:38.85. In the 5,000 meters, freshman Brian Maat (Holland Christian) took
second with a time of 15:09.44 while sophomore Joel Post (DeMotte, IN) took
sixth in the 800 meters with a career-best time of 1:56.59.

Senior Jason DeVries (Unity Christian) also took fourth in the pole vault (13-11
¼) while sophomores Cameron Baron (Lake Stevens, WA) and Jeremy Knoester (Grand
