VEENSTRA NAMED MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - For the fourth time this year and for the eighth time in his
career, Calvin College junior forward Jeremy Veenstra has been named MIAA Player
of the Week in men's basketball.

Veenstra's career MIAA Player of the Week total is the second-highest in Calvin
men's basketball history, surpassed only by Steve Honderd who received the award
    10 times between 1989-to-1993.

A native of Kalamazoo and a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School,
Veenstra helped lead Calvin to a pair of victories last week as the Knights
defeated Kalamazoo 71-65 Wednesday in an MIAA contest and then topped Orchard
Lake St. Mary's 80-63 in a non-conference tilt Saturday afternoon.

In the victory over Kalamazoo Wednesday night, Veenstra scored 21 points,
grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots as he moved into sixth place on
the all-time Calvin scoring list. The 6-6 forward then notched his 21st career
double-double in Saturday's win over St. Mary's as he scored 14 points and
grabbed 11 rebounds to extend his double-figure scoring streak to 39 games.

On the week, Veenstra was 12-of-24 from the floor and converted 11-of-15
attempts from the free throw line. He was also credited with three assists and
two steals along with his four blocked shots.

In overall games, Veenstra leads the MIAA in scoring and rebounding with
averages of 19.0 points and 8.9 rebounds a game. In overall games, he is also
    second in blocked-shots-per-game (1.57); third in assists-per-game (3.19) and
fourth in field goal percentage (.513).

Over the course of his three-year Calvin career, Veenstra has accumulated 1,407
points and 469 rebounds. Veenstra recently surpassed Tom Newhof (1,372 points)
for sixth place on the all-time Calvin scoring list and is now 349 points behind
1994 graduate Chris Knoester who is fifth on the all-time Calvin scoring list.

Calvin returns to action on Wednesday night when it travels to Adrian for a key
MIAA contest scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm at the Adrian Merrilat Center. The
Knights will then play host to Albion Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm in front of
a homecoming crowd at the Calvin Fieldhouse.
