MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Calvin completed its dual meet campaign with a 157-45 victory over visiting
Lake Forest College Saturday afternoon at Calvin's Bergsma Natatorium. With the
win, the Knights closed out their dual meet campaign with a 6-3 overall record.
Calvin took first place in eight individual events and swept both relays to
captured Saturday's competition. Freshman Peter Boumgarden (Naperville, IL)
took home Calvin's first victory as he captured the 1,000 freestyle in 10:21.11.
Other Calvin winners individually included sophomore Brad White (Dayton, OH) in
the 200 freestyle (1:46.32); senior Chris Clark (Traverse City) in the 50
freestyle (22.80); freshman Dan VanderHeide (Grand Rapids Christian) in the 200
IM (2:07.45); junior A.J. Penninga (Grand Rapids Christian) in the 200 butterfly
(2:01.37); junior Jacob VanderPlas (Palo Alto, CA) in the 200 backstroke
(2:04.72); freshman Peter Daining (Grand Rapids Christian) in the 500 freestyle
(5:12.50) and freshman Ryan Preston (Richmond, IN) in the 200 breaststroke
(2:20.98).
Calvin's 200 medley relay team of VanderPlas, seniors Bryan Linn (Indianapolis,
IN), Kevin Hawkins (Oakdale, CA) and junior Kevin Katerberg (Dayton, OH) took
first with a time of 1:41.43. Calvin's 200 freestyle relay team of Hawkins,
Clark, Linn and senior Jordan Zacharia (Annondale, VA) then took first place in
a time of 1:29.79.
Calvin will now prepare for the MIAA Championships February 21-23 at the
Holland Aquatic Center.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Calvin closed out its dual meet campaign with a 7-3 overall record as the
Knights defeated visiting Lake Forest 149-94 Saturday afternoon at Calvin's
Bergsma Natatorium.
Katie Nagelkirk (Holland Christian) continued her outstanding junior campaign
by winning the 50 freestyle (24.64) and 100 freestyle (53.64). Although not her
best times this season, both performances were NCAA III B' Cut qualifying
efforts. Senior Erin Kloostra (Grand Rapids Christian) also had a strong
performance in the 50 freestyle in taking second place with a season-best time
of 24.96.
Junior Megan Bagnall (Elgin, IL) was another individual winner for the Knights,
taking first place with a season-best time of 1:11.27 in the 100 breaststroke.
In the three-meter diving competition, Calvin freshman Melissa Huffman (Bay
City) took first place with a season-best score of 210.55.
In addition, Calvin's 200 freestyle relay team of seniors Kate Conrad (Calvin
Christian), Kloostra, freshman Courtney Bechler (Holt) and junior Jenny Los
(Holland Christian) took first place with a time of 1:43.40.
Calvin will now prepare for the MIAA Championships February 21-23 at the
Holland Aquatic Center.
