Calvin 7th in Latest Sears Director's Cup Standings

Calvin College is seventh in the latest Sears Director's Cup Division
III standings with 178 points. The Sears Director's Cup is based on
points earned by teams that compete in NCAA Championship events and is
presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Director's
of Athletics (NACDA) to the best overall collegiate athletics program in
the country. The Sears Director's Cup race is held at the NCAA I, II
and III levels and also for NAIA institutions.

The latest standings reflect the final standings after the fall sports
    season.

Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA III
Championship competition in up to 18 sports -- nine for men and nine for
women. Each national champion receives 100 points with a national
runner-up finish worth 90 points. Third place is worth 80 points and
fourth place finishes count for 75 points with a sliding point scale
continuing on down by order of finish.

Calvin earned 178 points during the fall sports season on the
performances of its men's and women's cross country teams and women's
volleyball team in NCAA competition. The volleyball team earned 20
points; the women's cross country team 68 points and the men's cross
country team 90 points. The women's volleyball team earned a bid to the
NCAA III Tournament by winning the MIAA Tournament this fall. Calvin's
volleyball team was then defeated by Carnegie Mellon in the first round
of the NCAA III Tournament. The NCAA III Tournament appearance in
volleyball was Calvin's 13th overall and fifth in the last seven years.
The women's cross country team finished sixth at the NCAA III
Championships, recording its 10th top-10 national finish. The men's
cross country team took second at the NCAA III Championships, recording

    national finish.
