CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR October 2, 2001
VOLLEYBALL
Calvin got back on the winning track with a 30-20, 30-18, 30-19 victory over
visiting Olivet Thursday night at the Calvin Fieldhouse. The Calvin win snapped
a five-match losing skid and allowed the Knights to improve to 12-8 overall and
to 6-2 in the MIAA.
Tuesday's match opened the second half of the MIAA regular season schedule.
Freshman Kara Kuipers (Unity Christian) paced Calvin to the win with 12 kills
and four blocks while junior Cassie Christopher (Fruitport) added 11 kills and
three digs. Senior Sara Ahrenholz (Prinsburg, MN) collected 37 assists, eight
digs and a pair of service aces while sophomore Trisha Balkema (Highland, IN)
chipped in with nine kills and seven digs.
Calvin returns to action Friday when it journeys to St. Mary's for a 6:30 pm
conference match.
