MEN'S SOCCER
Battling cold, wet and windy conditions, Calvin got back on the winning track
with a 1-0 victory over visiting Albion Tuesday afternoon at Calvin Field. The
victory lifted the Knights to 4-3-2 overall and to 2-1 in the MIAA while Albion
dropped to 3-4-1 overall and to 1-1-1 in league play.
Albion dominated large portions of the first half but Calvin would be the team
to score first as sophomore Eric Krauss (Grosse Pointe) banged in his second
goal of the year on an assist from sophomore Marcus Decker (Grand Rapids
Christian) with just 2:33 left in the half.
Calvin turned the tide in the second half, peppering the Albion goal with a
number of shots to steal the momentum. Neither team would score in the second
half however as the goal by Krauss proved to be the game-winner.
Albion finished with a 15-13 shots at goal advantage but the Knights held a 9-6
advantage in the second half.
Senior goaltender Matt Thelen (Grand Haven) had another strong game in nets for
Calvin to collect his third shutout victory of the year.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it hosts defending league champion
Kalamazoo at 1:30 pm.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
A four-goal deficit proved to be too large of a hole for Calvin to climb out of
as the Knights dropped a 5-3 decision at defending league champion Albion
Tuesday afternoon.
The host Britons scored four times in the opening 21 minutes to build a 4-0
advantage. Calvin battled back with goals by sophomore Becky Welsh (Delaware,
OH) and senior Larissa Onderlinde (Kalamazoo Christian) cut the deficit to 4-2
but the Britons scored a fifth goal with just 6:25 left in the half, en route to
taking a 5-2 halftime lead.
Onderlinde would then score her second goal of the game, converting a penalty
kick in the 68th minute. Neither team would score again however as the Britons
(9-0, 4-0 MIAA) remained unbeaten.
Albion finished with a 13-10 shots at goal advantage with Liz Hermiller scoring
two goals and Amanda Yeager, Lauran Gentry and Kendra Clark scoring one goal
apiece. Junior Leah VanderPloeg came up with three saves and freshman Kristin
Jamieson (Aurora, CO) five saves for the Knights. Erica Williams had seven
