MEN'S GOLF
Calvin came up with its best team performance of the year, recording a second
place score of 381 strokes Saturday afternoon at the third MIAA outing of the
year. The outing was hosted by Alma at the Pine River Country Club.
Senior Jon Kalmink (Grosse Pointe Woods) was the catalyst behind Calvin's
performance as he captured medalist honors for the first time in his career,
firing a round of 72. Kalmink was one of four Calvin golfers to shoot sub-80
rounds as junior Tony Karsten (Holland Christian) finished tied for second place
with a round of 73 while senior Adam Derrickson (North Muskegon) had a round of
76 and senior Bryan Hoekstra (Grand Rapids Christian) a round of 79. Other
Calvin finishers included sophomore Ryan Brandsma (Hinsdale, IL) and freshman
Mike Bratt (Lynden, WA) with rounds of 81.
Hope took first place as a team with a round of 377 to move into first place in
the overall standings with 1173 strokes. Calvin is in fourth place in the
overall standings with 1191 strokes, one stroke behind third place Olivet and
nine strokes behind second place Alma.
Calvin will compete at the fourth MIAA outing of the year on Tuesday. The
outing will be hosted by Hope at the Clearbrook Golf Club.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Calvin finished seventh at the third MIAA outing of the year with a team score
of 441 strokes. The outing was hosted by Adrian at the Lenawee Country Club.
Calvin was led by freshman Dawn Svenkson (Scandia, MN) who carded a round of 105
while senior Alyssa Bruinsma (Grand Rapids Christian) and sophomore Amber
Beardslee (Lakeview) had rounds of 107. Sophomore Sarah Giles (Middleville) and
junior Becky Rietema (Grand Rapids Christian) rounded out Calvin's finishers
with scores of 122 and 124 respectively.
Albion took first place as a team with 350 strokes with Alma's Courtney
Rheinhardt earning medalist honors with a round of 74.
Calvin will now prepare for the MIAA Championships scheduled to be hosted by St.
Mary's September 28 & 29.
