MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Calvin suffered its first dual meet loss of the year as the Knights were
defeated by MIAA and national power Kalamazoo 160-75 Saturday afternoon.
Calvin is now 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the MIAA. The Knights will close
out their MIAA dual meet campaign next Saturday when they host Hope at
1:00 pm.
Freshman Brad White (Dayton, OH) was a double-winner for the Knights,
winning the 50 freestyle (22.09) and 100 freestyle (47.43). Sophomore
Jake VanderPlas (Palo Alto, CA) also won the 200 backstroke with a time
of 2:01.55.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Calvin improved to 6-2 overall and more importantly to 5-0 in the MIAA
dual meet standings with a 132-109 victory at Kalamazoo Saturday
afternoon.
Calvin posted six first place performances on Saturday. Sophomore Ginni
Bakker (Kalamazoo Christian)took the 1,000 freestyle (11:19.99) for the
Knights while sophomore Anne Kuiper (Houghton) was a winner in the 50
freestyle (26.47). Other winners for Calvin included sophomore Mara
McGuin (Oak Park, IL) in the 200 butterfly (2:19.98); sophomore Katie
Nagelkirk (Holland Christian) in the 100 freestyle (54.84) and senior
Liesje Konyndyk (Grand Rapids Christian) in the 500 freestyle (5:32.29).
In addition, Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Jenny Los
(Holland Christian), junior Kate Conrad (Calvin Christian), Kuiper and
junior Erin Kloostra (Grand Rapids Christian) captured the 400 freestyle
relay with a time of 3:48.86.
Calvin will now prepare for a conference showdown with rival Hope next
Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Bergsma Natatorium. Hope is 4-0 in the MIAA
dual meet standings. The Flying Dutch will swim against St. Mary's
Tuesday evening before their meet at Calvin.
