MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Calvin men's and women's swim teams split non-conference dual meets
at the Bergsma Natatorium Friday night as the men beat Grand Valley
146-78 while the
women suffered a defeat, falling 121-103.
In the men's swim meet Calvin dominated the Lakers taking 8 individual
and 2 relay first places. Leading the way for the Knights were sophomore
A.J. Penninga and freshman Brad White as both men accomplished two
individual first places and one relay first place. Penninga took first
place in the 200 IM (1:59.24) and the 100 Fly (0:53.94). White cruised
to victory in the 100 freestyle (0:48.14) and the 200 freestyle
(1:45.61). Other top finishers for the Knights were junior Kevin Hawkes
in the 50 freestyle (0:22.72) and sophomore Dan Hekman in the 500
freestyle (4:57.29) and the 1000 freestyle (10:21.52). Freshman Joel
Voss won the men's one-meter diving with a score of 237.65.
On the women's side Calvin was led by sophomore Anne Kuiper as she
recorded two first place individual finishes. Kuiper won the 200 IM
(2:16.40) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.96). Senior Liesje Konyndyk
finished first in the 1000 freestyle 11:07.32. The Calvin women were
also victorious in the 200 medley relay (1:56.05). The 200 medley was
made up of Katie Nagelkirk, Brittney Stevens, Mara McGuin, and Katie
Conrad.
The Calvin swim teams will return to action on Wednesday night as they
compete in a dual meet versus the Alma Scots at 6 PM.
