CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR Friday, September 22

    VOLLEYBALL
(written by Calvin sports info student assistant Ross Weener)

Calvin notched its third consecutive victory in the MIAA, defeating the
Adrian Bulldogs Friday night at the Merrillat Center. Calvin swept all
three games by scores of 17-15, 15-6, and 15-13. The win brings the
Knights to 12-3 overall (4-1 MIAA) and leaves them only a half game back
of league leading Hope College in the MIAA. The loss drops Adrian to 8-6
    overall (2-3 MIAA).

After winning the first two games in the match the Knights appeared to
be in control. This was not to be the case however as the Knights fell
behind to the Bulldogs 13-6 and found themselves in a hole. Calvin then
dug in and went on a 9-0 run to close out the game and the match 15-13.

Leading the Knights was senior middle hitter Rhonda Volkers (Holland
Christian) as she recorded 14 kills, 10 digs and helped out with 3
blocks. Also contributing in the front row was Melissa Pell (Fremont)
who came up with 11 kills and 3 blocks. Freshman Trisha Balkema (Illiana
Christian) tallied 11 digs and served up 2 aces. Dishing out 32 assists
was junior setter Sara Ahrenholz (Prinsburg, MN).

Lindsay Dale recorded 15 digs, 3 kills, 5 aces and 4 blocks to lead the
Bulldogs. Lacey Marvin threw in 7 digs and 6 kills for Adrian. Setter
Joanna Weigel added 22 assists and 9 digs.

Calvin returns to action Tuesday night against the Hornets of Kalamazoo
    in another MIAA match.
