CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR WEDNESDAY, September 20, 2000

    MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The Calvin men's cross country team will head into
Saturday's MIAA jamboree as the top-ranked team in the nation while the
Calvin women will head in ranked second. The Calvin men's cross country
team is ranked number-one in the third Division III national poll of the
    year, released late Tuesday afternoon.

It marks the second time that the Calvin men's cross country team has
earned the number-one ranking as the Knights were voted to the top spot
for the first time in school history last October after winning the NCAA
pre-national invitational in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Knights held the
top spot for three additional weeks and went on to finish fourth at the
    NCAA III Championships.

Calvin received six first place votes in this week's NCAA Division III
poll while Keene State of New Hampshire received two first place votes.
Three-time defending national champion North Central is ranked third
while Nebraska Wesleyan is ranked fourth.

On Saturday, the Calvin men took first place at the Wisconsin-Parkside
Invitational in Kenosha, Wisconsin with 70 points, finishing three
points ahead of second place North Central.

The two-time defending national champion Calvin women's cross country
team also took first place at the Parkside Invitational Saturday,
recording a score of 82 points. The Knights received one first place
vote in this week's poll while Middlebury of New Hampshire - the 1999
national runner-up - received seven first place votes.
Wisconsin-Oshkosh is ranked third in this week's poll while Williams is
ranked fourth. Oshkosh took second at Saturday's Parkside Invitational
with a score of 113 points.

Saturday's MIAA jamboree is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
