The Department of Geology, Geography and Environmental Studies invites you to a Student Research Presentations seminar. Geology major Maia Madrid will present “Measurement of Alongshore Dune Sediment Budgets and Movement”. Geography major Lyall Blanché will present “Geospatial Transformations: Water, Health, Maps, and Liberia”.
Brief Summaries:
- Madrid’s study examines the characteristics and sediment exchanges of the foredune-beach system at three locations along the east Lake Michigan coast: Rosy Mound Natural Area, P.J. Hoffmaster State Park, and Muskegon State Park. The research suggests that recent dune erosion by waves is not equally distributed along the shoreline.
- Blanché’s study uses geospatial analysis to investigate water, health, and demographics of Liberia’s recent past and current state. The research tracks the health ramifications of an effort to distribute drinking water filters to every household in Liberia, including the early results of a health survey of the households.
