Subject: Human evolution and original sin - book launch and panel discussion

Please join us on Monday, November 22, 4:00 PM in the Covenant Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

Loren Haarsmas new book, When Did Sin Begin? (Baker Academic, 2021) outlines the history of the doctrine of original sin, summarizes the scientific evidence for human evolution, and describes several approaches for bringing the two together in harmony. Without privileging one over the others, the book presents a range of scenarios for how sin might have entered humanity's story and examines theological strengths and challenges of each.

After presenting the book, Haarsma (Physics and Astronomy) will be joined by Daniel Harlow (Religion) and Ryan Bebej (Biology) on a panel moderated by Noah Toly (Provost), to discuss not only the book, but more broadly, why and how scholars at Calvin approach topics that address core teachings and confessions of our Reformed tradition.
