The food system is both a logistical triumph as well as an environmental bane and an inequitable endeavor. The common thread is the history of agriculture as an extractive and exploitative human enterprise, combined with the failure to update practices and business plans with modern scientific understanding of the way the planet and economics work. To reform the system the Union of Concerned Scientists is working with a coalition to build the political power of the food movement.
