The Mathematics & Statistics Colloquium: Square Pegs and Round Holes

You are cordially invited to the October 27 Mathematics & Statistics Colloquium.  Join us for light refreshments in the Reading Room at 3:00 pm, followed by a fascinating lecture in NH 294 at 3:10 pm.

Speaker:  Professor Michele Intermont, Kalamazoo College

Topic:  Square Peg - Round Hole?

Abstract:  The Square Peg Conjecture dates from the early 1900s: given a curve in the plane, can you find a square whose vertices all lie on the curve?  This question is still generating interest today.  We'll talk about the history of this conjecture and those recent developments.
