The Mathematics and Statistics Department's Colloquium on Thursday, September 30 will feature Mike Janssen, Associate Professor of Mathematics at Dordt College.

Dr. Janssen will give a lecture entitled "Exploring Algebra Via Graphs." Light refreshments will be served in the Reading Room at 3:30, and the lecture will begin at 3:40 in North Hall 276.

In high school, you learn about the close connection between polynomial equations like f(x)=0f(x) = 0 and the associated geometric object,
the graph of y=f(x)y = f(x). One can often leverage this connection to translate insights from one area into another. In this talk, we will describe a similar correspondence between graphs and algebraic structures known as ideals.
