Calvin College's Dining Services is hosting the inaugural "Dine with ArtPrize" mashed potato contest beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2010.
Calvin's Commons Dining Hall and Knollcrest Dining Hall will host the inaugural "mashed potato sculpting contest," in which five Calvin students at each venue will be given a Knight figure to sculpt. The students will have 30-minutes to use homemade white playdough (resembling mashed potatoes) to try and recreate the Knight sculpture. The contest will run from 5-5:30 p.m. in the Commons Dining Hall and 5:30-6 p.m. in the Knollcrest Dining Hall.
ArtPrize artists Sheila Wayne (an award-winning visual artist from Anchorage, Alaska), Bill Vriesema (assistant director of technology support services at Calvin), and Patrick Hekman (a sophomore at Calvin), will be guest judges. The students will be judged based on how close they come to recreating the Knight sculpture.
