Calvin College economist John Tiemstra has been named the 2009 winner of the Thomas Divine Award. The award, given by the Association for Social Economics (ASE), honors members of the ASE who have made lifetime contributions to social economics.

Tiemstra, a former ASE president, will receive a medal and a $1,000 cash stipend at the ASE national meetings in Atlanta in January 2010.

ASE was established 67 years ago in Washington, D.C. to "advance scholarly research and writing about the great questions of economics, human dignity, ethics and philosophy."
