The Calvin College Rugby Club is hosting a rugby triangular this Saturday, April 11 as part of a fundraiser to raise money for the Cook Library Center at the Grandville Academy of the Arts.
Senior Michael Bailey founded the rugby club back in 2007. He said this is the first time the club will try a fundraiser of this nature, but he hopes it won't be the last. He says the library has special meaning to a number of the players.
"Some of the guys on the team are involved with the library," said Bailey, "and they heard that because of budget cuts the library is having a harder time. It's a good resource for our community; they do a lot to help students. So we decided it would be a good cause for us to get behind."
On Saturday the Club will hold drawings for prizes donated by local businesses, sell food and drinks and pass a bucket around for donations - all to benefit the library.
"The guys are real excited about it," he said, "and we'd like to make this an annual type of event. What we're about off the field is as important as what we're about on the field."
Calvin College will play Michigan State at Noon and Northern Michigan at 3 p.m. The games will be played on Calvin's campus on the fields just north of the DeVos Communication Center.
