Calvin Presents Rangeela

Calvin College's annual international student variety show is back for its 14th year. Rangeela returns to the Fine Arts Center stage February 27-28 at 8 p.m. and features 11 acts from four different continents.

Rangeela, a Hindi word for "colorful," weaves together songs, dances and skits from the many non-American cultures represented at Calvin. Calvin senior Ivan Gan is directing the 2009 show.

"Over the past several years Rangeela was looking at re-mixing and looking at traditional dances with a contemporary twist," said Gan.

He said this year's theme,'Fabric of His Kingdom,' will feature a return to more traditional dances.

One of the acts this year is a Japanese dance. One of the students' mothers is coming all the way from Japan to see the dance and is bringing her daughter a special kimono to wear during the performance.

While Calvin College ranks first among the top 40 baccalaureate institutions in the nation for the total number of students who study abroad, it also is becoming a place where many students come from other countries for a four-year, liberal arts education.

Tickets for Rangeela are $6 and are available at the Calvin Box Office, 526.6282. For more information, including photos from past shows visit: http://www.calvin.edu/student-life/rangeela/
