C.S. Lewis and Inklings Society Conference Comes to Calvin
The C.S. Lewis and Inklings Society’s 12th annual conference is coming to
west Michigan for the first time ever. The conference titled: “Inklings:
Dinosaurs or Contemporaries?” will be held March 26-28 on the campus of
Calvin College.
“Inklings: Dinosaurs or Contemporaries?” explores, through papers and
plenary sessions, the ways in which C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Owen Barfield,
Charles Williams and other members of the Inklings are relevant to the
21st-century. The conference asks how the authors of the Lord of the Rings, the
Chronicles of Narnia and Mere Christianity still influence the literary,
theological, philosophical and socio-political issues of today.
Six different colleges and universities in the area have teamed up to sponsor
the event. The event’s director Janice Prewitt says that this is the first
time this conference has been sponsored by more than one college. “We have
such a strong community interest in that it seemed a great fit to have the
conference this year at Calvin College,” she said.
The C.S. Lewis and Inklings Society upholds and promotes the advancement of
scholarship, teaching, writing, and other professional activities related to
the life and works of C.S. Lewis and the Inklings. For more information on the
