Calvin College has announced a trio of new administrative appointments.
Janel Curry, a geographer who is currently the dean for research and scholarship at Calvin, has been named the new holder of the Gary and Henrietta Byker Chair in Christian Perspectives on Political, Social and Economic Thought. Curry, who will continue her work as dean on a halftime for at least the next year, succeeds sociologist Paul Freston in the role of Byker Chair.
Jim Penning, a professor of political science, has been named the director of the Center for Social Research (CSR) at Calvin. Penning, who joins Neil Carlson and a strong team of student research assistants at the CSR, follows Kurt Schaefer as director (Schaefer has returned to the Calvin economics department).
Finally professor of English Susan Felch has been appointed director of the Calvin Center for Christian Scholarship (CCCS). Felch succeeds Jim Bratt, a professor of history, who will return to his department after almost a decade as director of the CCCS.
