Twelve Calvin College juniors and seniors are preparing for summer internships designed to help them discern their call to ministry as part of the college's Jubilee Fellows program.
The students hail from such Michigan cities as Grand Rapids, Holland, Grand Haven, Kalamazoo, Ann Arbor and Chelsea, as well as several out-of-state locales. They all were selected to participate in the program after expressing an interest in church-related work.
Currently the fellows are participating in a weekly seminar class where they discuss issues related to ministry. This summer they will fan out across North America where they will gain experience in everything from sermon preparation to pastoral visitation and community outreach.
Next fall the program continues with a retreat, a service project, mentoring and more, all designed to help the students decide if they are indeed called to full-time ministry.
Jubilee Fellows program coordinator Kary Bosma said the current class, the summer internship and the fall program have all been designed to help students learn about themselves and what it means to be involved in the life of the church.
