Carpenter to Step Down as Calvin Provost

Calvin College provost Joel Carpenter has announced his intention to step down
from those duties, effective at the conclusion of the 2005-2006 academic year.

Carpenter is just finishing the fourth year of his second, five-year term as
provost, and announced last night at a meeting of Calvin's Faculty Senate that
he will not seek a third such term. He decided to make the announcement now to
give Calvin plenty of time to conduct a thorough national and international
search for his successor.
