OLIVET, Mich. - Calvin pounded out 30 hits and 24 runs in sweeping a doubleheader from Olivet Thursday afternoon.
In game one, junior Jonathan Keane (Brookfield, Wisc./Brookfield Central HS) tossed a complete-game victory to up his season record to 4-1. Keane struck out six batters and scattered six hits over seven innings of work.
Calvin (13-19 overall, 12-10 MIAA) rapped out 10 hits in the victory led by junior Beau Redfield (Cedar Springs, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) who was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Senior Nate DeZwaan (Hamilton, Mich./Holland Christian HS) reached base four times as he was 1-for-2 at the plate and walked three times while scoring two runs.
Junior Ryan Pena (Lake Forest, Ca./J Serra Catholic HS) was 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Logan Marshall (Plymouth, Mich./Salem HS) had a hit and two RBI.
Calvin scored six runs in the top of the first inning and added five insurance runs in the fifth.
In game two, the Knights belted out a season-high 20 hits to pull away for the victory. Calvin scored five runs in the fourth, six runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
Junior Clay Francisco (Delton, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg HS) got the start and picked up the win to bump his season record to 4-3. Francisco went 6.1 innings on the mound before giving way to junior Logan Walker (Imlay City, Mich./Lapeer East HS) and sophomore Justin Paauwe (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS).
Freshman Ricky Padilla (Poway, Ca./Poway HS) was 4-for-6 at the plate with a double and three runs scored. Sophomore Jeremy Clark (San Diego, Ca./Mt. Carmel HS) was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Pena was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Sophomore Quinn Hyndiuk (Elm Grove, Wisc./Brookfield East HS) was 3-for-6. Keane was 2-for-6 with a double. Marshall was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Redfield also smashed a double.
Calvin will host Olivet in a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m. to close out the weekend series with the Comets.

MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
HILLSDALE, Mich. - Calvin kicked off competition at the Hillsdale Gina Relays with a collection of distance races.
In the men's 5,000 meter open race, Calvin had a plethora of personal-best performances.
Freshman Justin Varineau (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) took 14th with a career-best time of 15:05.39 while freshman Jonathan Ellis (Baltimore, Md./Towson HS) was 15th with a career-best time of 15:06.09.
Freshman Micah Meindertsma (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) was 25th in a career-best tie of 15:13.96. Freshman Jonathan Randall (Hopkington, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) was 44th in a career-best time of 15:26.10.
Freshman Noah Cummisford (Mequon, Wisc./Homestead HS) was 50th in a career-best time of 15:29.42. Senior Mark DeJong (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was 52nd in a time of 15:30.90.
Sophomore Jacob Pettinga (Saugutuck, Mich./Saugutuck HS) was 56th in a career-best time of 15:31.12. Sophomore Jason Klaasen (Jenison, Mich./Unity Christian HS) also had a career-best time of 15:46.78.
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Calvin women's track and field team kicked off competition at the Hillsdale Gina Relays Thursday night.
In the women's 5,000 meter run, sophomore Michelle Koetje (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a sterling performance, placing 18th with a career-bst time of 17:50.77. Junior Breanna Kooiman (Tinley Park, Il./Chicago Christian HS) had a career-best time of 18:22.11 in the 5K that was good for 53rd place.
Sophomore Emma Schroer (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton Warrenville South HS) was 55th in a career-best time of 18:27.77. Freshman Annie Needs (Peru, Il./Saint Bede Academy) was 63rd in a career-best time of 18:45.00.
Senior Catherine Croft (Grand Rapids, Mich./Coopersville HS) was 72nd in a time of 19:04.90.
