Calvin-Hope Men's Basketball Rivalry Set to Renew Wednesday Night;
Keane and Houts Named Players to Watch by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper
MEN'S BASKETBALL
The 196th meeting between Calvin and Hope in men's basketball will tip off Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at Hope's DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland, Mich. The series dates back to the 1920-21 season and is now in its 97th year.
Hope leads the all-time series 101-95 but Calvin has won the last two meetings - both of which were at Hope's DeVos Fieldhouse last February.
Just 84 points separate the teams over 196 games, a difference of only 0.43 points per game.
Both teams are 1-1 in MIAA competition with Calvin 5-8 overall and Hope 7-6. Calvin and Hope have both played a difficult schedule thus far with Hope playing the third-toughest schedule according to the NCAA Division III strength of schedule index while Calvin has played the fourth-toughest schedule in Division III.
Wednesday's game will be televised throughout West Michigan on WGVU TV 35/52 and will be streamed through the Hope website. The game will also feature local radio coverage with Grand Rapids 96.1 ESPN calling the game as well as Holland's 92.7 THEVAN.

BASEBALL
Jonathan Keane and Kyle Houts of the Calvin baseball team have been named to the 2018 Division III Players to Watch List by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
A junior, Keane hails from Brookfield, Wisconsin. He is a graduate of Brookfield Central High School. Keane was a multi-position threat for the Knights last spring as a sophomore, playing shortstop while also filling a starter's spot in Calvin's pitching rotation.
As a pitcher, Keane was 5-4 with a 3.90 earned run average along with two saves. He appeared in 13 games on the mound, striking out 59 batters in 62.1 innings of work. Keane was also credited with four complete games and two shutout victories.
When not pitching, he also served as Calvin's starting shortstop , compiling a .967 fielding percentage while helping turn 18 double-plays. At the plate, he batted .296 with 10 doubles, two home runs and 25 runs batted in. Keane also stole three bases. He was later named to the 2017 All-MIAA second team.
A native of Spring Lake and a graduate of Spring Lake High School, Houts was also a multi-position player for the Knights last spring, serving as a catcher, outfielder and designated hitter.
In the field he posted a .953 fielding percentage while throwing out six base runners. At the plate, Houts batted .308 with 11 doubles, three home runs, one triple and 23 runs batted in while compiling a .459 slugging percentage. He also stole four bases.
"This is nice recognition for two very deserving players," said Calvin head baseball coach John Rypel. "I know our entire program is counting down the day until we can begin the journey together."
Calvin is scheduled to open its season on March 3 with a doubleheader against Oberlin College in Westfield, Indiana.
