MEN'S SOCCER
Calvin College junior Jacob Witte has been named a Division III CoSIDA Academic All-American in men's soccer.
A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Witte is receiving CoSIDA Academic All-America honors for the first time in his collegiate career.
Witte was a key part of a powerful Calvin offensive attack this fall, compiling 11 goals, 11 assists and 33 points. He has a pair of game-winning goals this fall, scoring in a 3-0 win over Lake Forest on September and also in a 5-0 win over Olivet October 25.
During his career he has scored big post-season goals as well. As a freshman in 2015, he scored the game-winner in the closing minutes of a 1-0 national quarterfinal win of the NCAA III Tournament at Kenyon. As a sophomore in 2016, he scored the game-winner in a 2-1 double-overtime upset at Messiah in a national semi-quarterfinal match of the NCAA III Tournament.
He was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week once during the season and landed a spot on the All-MIAA first team for the second straight year.
Witte has 24 goals, 21 assists and 69 points in his Calvin career.
In the classroom, Witte is majoring in Speech Pathology and carries a 3.88 grade point average.
He is a four-time member of the Calvin Dean's List and a two-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
"I'm thrilled to see Jacob receive this award," said Calvin men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "He has worked very hard in the classroom and on the soccer pitch. He is very deserving of this award. As a program, we push hard for success both in the classroom and on the soccer field. Jacob has played a key role in helping our program strive for these goals."
Witte is the seventh individual in Calvin men's soccer history to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American, joining Sam Glass (1997, 1998), Will Watts (1997), Joel Veldhouse (2003, 2004), Greg Snapper (2009), Miles Colago (2011) and Travis Vegter (2013, 2014) to have done so.
Calvin student-athletes have now received CoSIDA Academic All-America honors 123 times.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING
For the second time this season and for the seventh time in her career, Calvin College senior Abby Van Harn has been named the MIAA Women's Swimmer of the Week.
A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Van Harn recently wrapped up a banner weekend at the Calvin Winter Invitational.
At the three-day competition, she took first place in the 50 freestyle while placing second in the 100 and 200 freestyle events. In addition, she anchored several of Calvin's relay teams.
She opened competition Thursday night by anchoring Calvin's second place 800 freestyle relay team that clocked in with a time of 7:34.97. The time currently ranks fifth on the NCAA III performance list.
On Friday night, she captured first place in the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.41 that currently ranks third on the NCAA III performance list. In addition she anchored Calvin's third place 200 freestyle relay team that clocked in with a time of 1:34.94. Later in a 200 freestyle relay time trial, she anchored Calvin to a school-record time of 1:33.84 that currently ranks fourth on the NCAA III performance list. In the time trial, she anchored the 200 freestyle relay with a final split of 22.65.
She continued her stellar swimming by placing second in the 100 freestyle Saturday night with a time of 50.68 that currently ranks third on the NCAA III performance list.
Van Harn also swam on Calvin's fifth place 200 medley relay team (1:46.88) and its third place 400 freestyle relay team that placed third in a time of 3:29.52. The time in the 400 freestyle relay currently ranks seventh on the NCAA III performance list.
"Abby had a fabulous weekend," said Calvin head swimming coach Dan Gelderloos. "She is not the type of person to settle for maintaining the 'status quo.' She continues to work hard and improve. To see her swim this fast this early in the year is very exciting. She is very deserving of this award."
Van Harn helped the 17th-ranked Calvin women's swimming and diving team finish third at the Calvin Winter Invitational with 1,334 points in a field filled with Division II competition.
WOMEN'S DIVING
For the third time this year and for the fourth time in her collegiate career, Calvin College senior Sarah Bradley has been named the MIAA Women's Diver of the Week.
Bradley hails from Wheaton, Illinois. She is a graduate of Wheaton North High School. At the Calvin Winter Invitational this past weekend, Bradley won both diving competitions, doing so against a field filled with Division II competition. She is the first diver from Calvin to sweep both boards at the Calvin Winter Invitational since Samantha Klaasen did so in 2012.
Bradley won the one-meter board with a score of 447.25 points and the three-meter board with a score of 442.20 points. Both scores were NCAA III Regional qualifying marks. She is currently ranked 12th nationally on the one-meter board and eighth on the three-meter board.
"Sarah had an excellent weekend," said Calvin diving coach Aaron Paskvan. "She is right on track where we had hoped to be at this point in the season. She is working hard and making adjustments where needed. I am very pleased to see her receive this honor."

MEN'S SWIMMING
For the second time this year, Calvin College junior Jared Britton has been named the MIAA Men's Swimmer of the Week.
Britton hails from Falls Church, Virginia. He is a graduate of Chesapeake High School.
Britton had a monster set of performances this past weekend at Calvin's Winter Invitational. On Thursday night, he shattered Calvin's record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 44.88 in a time trial race. The time eclipsed his own school record of 45.43 set last season. It also ranks seventh on the current NCAA III performance list.
On Friday, Britton broke his own school record in the 50 freestyle, ripping off a time of 20.33 in the morning prelims before finishing fifth in the evening finals with a time of 20.56. His morning prelim time broke the previous school record of 20.56 set in 2016. His time of 20.33 currently ranks fifth on the NCAA III performance list.
He also swam on Calvin's 200 freestyle relay team that finished third with a time of 1:23.06. He later competed with Calvin in a 200 freestyle time trial that ripped off a time of 1:22.18 with Briton anchoring with a split of 19.80. The time trial performance is currently ranked seventh on the NCAA III performance list.
On Saturday Britton took fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.80 after recording a season-best time of 49.65. He then anchored Calvin's third place 400 freestyle relay team that recorded a time of 3:01.89. The relay is currently ranked eighth on the NCAA III performance list.
"Jared had an incredible weekend and he is very deserving of this award," said Calvin head swim coach Dan Gelderloos. "He has worked extremely hard and taken his game to another level. He is swimming with confidence and determination and is off to a fantastic junior season."
Britton helped the 17th-ranked Calvin men's swimming and diving team place third in a field of Division II opponents with a score 1,180.5 points at the Calvin Winter Invitational.
MEN'S DIVING
For the second time this year, Calvin College senior Michael Moentmann has been named the MIAA Men's Diver of the Week.
Moentmann is a native of Solon, Ohio. He is a graduate of Solon High School.
This past weekend at the Calvin Winter Invitational, Moentmann turned in a pair of NCAA III regional qualifying scores.
On Friday, he placed seventh on the three-meter board with a score of 453.80 points. On Saturday he posted a regional qualifying score of 445.35 on the one-meter board in the prelims before taking seventh with a score of 409.55 in the final.
Moentmann is currently ranked eighth on the NCAA III performance list on the three-meter board and 12th on the one-meter board.
"Michael is making strong steady progress," said Calvin diving coach Aaron Paskvan. "He had a strong set of performances last weekend and continues to head in the right direction. We are still ironing out some things in his diving rotation but he is doing well. I am pleased to see him receive this award and watching him to continue to improve as the season progresses."

MEN'S BASKETBALL
For the first time in his collegiate career, Calvin College freshman Luke Morrison has been named the MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
A native of Bristol, Indiana, Morrison is a graduate of Northridge High School.
In a 105-76 victory over Martin Luther College Friday night, Morrison poured in 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting including 6-of-9 from three-point range. He was also 2-of-2 at the free throw line and credited with four rebounds and two assists.
In a 102-92 loss at Anderson Wednesday night, Morrison had 14 points and three rebounds.
On the week, he averaged 19.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists-per-game while connecting on 58.,3 percent (7-of-12) of his three-point attempts.
Morrison leads Calvin in scoring with an average of 16.4 points a game. He was recently named to the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic after averaging 17.5 points a game during the Thanksgiving weekend tournament.
