CALVIN KNIGHT SPORTS REPORT FOR SEPT. 12, 2017

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Calvin 2, Saint Mary's 0

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Calvin women's soccer team stayed perfect at Saint Mary's on Monday evening with a 2-0 shutout. The victory sends the Knights to 5-0-0 on the year and 2-0-0 in the MIAA. The Belles fall to 1-4-0 and 1-3-0 in the MIAA.
"Today was another learning experience for us," said head coach Mark Recker. "This was the first road game after a long bus trip. We had to battle and we had to overcome some lethargy today. We will learn from this and use this."
The Knights were able to pepper the Saint Mary's net in the first half with 13 shots, but none were able to find the back of the net.
In the 70th minute, the scoring drought ended. Junior Emily Van Vliet (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) was able to find the ball in a crowd of people in the center of the box and buried the ball by the Belles keeper. Sophomore Morgan Scott (Niles, Mich./St. Joseph) had the assist.
Morgan Scott would strike three minutes later off a corner from Emily Van Vliet that was punched out by the goaltender to Scott.
The Calvin defense posted another strong showing on Monday, only allowing one shot.
Freshman Amy Kliewer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) recorded her second career shutout victory.
The Knights out-shot the Belles on Monday, 23-1.
The Maroon and Gold forced 14 corners in the victory.
