Track and Field Teams Reap Academic Accolades From USTFCCCA

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

The Calvin men's and women's track and field teams have once again received the All-Academic Team Award from the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association. The Calvin women's team has now received the award 16 consecutive years while the Calvin men's team has received the honor nine straight years.
In order to receive the award, a team needed to have posted a minimum 3.0 grade point average or better. The Calvin women's team posted a 3.586 grade point average while the Calvin men's team recorded a 3.391 grade point average.

With its 3.586 grade point average, Calvin ranked 12th out of 183 women's teams that received the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award.
In addition, five members of the Calvin men's track and field team and four members of the Calvin women's track and field team have received individual USTFCCCA All-Academic status.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.35 and have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA performance list provided by TFRRS.org.
The five members of the Calvin men's track and field team to receive USTFCCCA individual honors include senior Jordan Kramer (Pewaukee, Wisc./Lake Country Lutheran HS), juniors Andrew Philipose (Mount Prospect, Il./John Hersey HS) and Ethan Valentine (Mason, Oh./William Mason HS), sophomore Brendan VanHouten (Comstock Park, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) and freshman Addison Smith (Seoul, South Korea/Seoul International Foreign School).
The four members of the Calvin women's track and field team to receive the USTFCCCA individual award include senior Lauren Strohbehn (Stillwater, Mn./St. Croix Preparatory HS), junior Jenna Dyksen (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne HS), sophomore Katie Diekema (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) and freshman Allison Rozell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS).
Both Calvin track and field teams were led by eighth-year head coach Bret Otte. His men's and women's teams have received the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award all eight years during his tenure.
