Calvin Women's Lacrosse Named IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Squad/Madeline Baas Named to IWLCA Academic Honor Roll;
Men's and Women's Tennis Teams/Players Receive ITA All-Academic Honors

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

The Calvin women's lacrosse team has been named a 2017 Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.

To qualify for the honor, teams must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

Under the direction of head coach Blake Boehm, the Calvin women's lacrosse team posted a cumulative team grade point average of 3.36 during the 2016-17 academic year.

In addition, junior Madeline Baas (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) has been named to the IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for the individual honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

The awards culminate a standout 2017 year for the Calvin women's lacrosse program as the Knights captured MIAA regular season and MIAA Tournament titles. Led by Boehm the Knights finished 12-6 overall and 8-0 in the MIAA. After capturing the MIAA Tournament title with wins over Albion and Hope, Calvin advanced to the NCAA III Tournament for the second straight year. In the NCAA III Tournament, Calvin dropped a narrow 14-11 decision at Mount Union in a second round tournament game.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin College women's tennis team has received 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic honors, as announced by the organization. In addition, seven members of its 2017 squad received ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.
"Once again I am very proud of how hard our team worked this year both in the classroom and on the court," said head coach Kevin VanHaitsma. "One of our goals ever year is to achieve a spot on the ITA All-Academic Team list. We also had seven players make the honor roll and the entire team all had very good GPAs. That really shows how hard our student-athletes work year round, to compete hard on the court, and also to perform well in the classroom."
In order to qualify for ITA All-Academic honors, a team must hold a minimum GPA of 3.20.
The Knights finished the year with a combined team GPA of 3.498 and recently received the MIAA Team GPA Award for their efforts.
In order to qualify for ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, an individual must have had at least a 3.50 GPA during the 2016-17 academic year. Liz Turner, Brittney Statema, Ellie Benzel, Jessica Bouma, Anna Asfour, Lark Foot and Claire Spoelhof all qualified this year.
The Knights finished the 2016-17 season with a second-place finish in the MIAA at 7-1, and posted a 13-7 overall record.

MEN'S TENNIS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin College men's tennis team received 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic honors, as announced by the organization. In addition, five student-athletes received ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.
"I am very proud of the team," said head coach John Ross. "This is another great achievement for the program. These guys word hard, on the court, in the classroom and continuing to grow closer to Christ each and every day. "
In order to qualify for ITA All-Academic honors, a team must hold a minimum GPA of 3.20.
The Knights finished the year with a combined team GPA of 3.512 and recently received the MIAA Team GPA Award.
In order to qualify for ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, an individual must have had at least a 3.50 GPA during the 2016-17 academic year. Owen Brookhouse, Jared Doezema, Charles Fahr, Matt Van Winkle and Taylor Asfour all qualified this year.
The Knights finished the 2016-17 season with a third-place finish in the MIAA at 5-2, with an 16-6 overall record.
