LEARFIELD DIRECTORS' CUP
Calvin College is back in the top 25 of the Learfield Director's Cup standings.
Calvin has finished 16th in the final 2016-17 NCAA III Learfield Directors' Cup standings with a total of 596.50 points. It marks the first time Calvin has been back in the top 25 since the 2013-14 academic year and marks the school's highest finish since the 2012-13 year when the Knights finished 15th.
"It is great to be recognized on a national stage," said Calvin Director of Athletics Dr. Jim Timmer. "We are blessed at Calvin to have a wonderful athletics program and our entire campus can be proud of this accomplishment."
Williams won the 2016-17 title as the best athletics program in the nation in Division III with a score of 1,335.25 points.
The Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and Learfield Sports to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country, and is based on points earned by teams that compete in NCAA Championship events.
Division III points are awarded based on finish in championship competition. Each national champion receives 100 points with a national runner-up finish worth 90 points. Third place is worth 80 points and fourth place finishes count for 75 points with a sliding point scale continuing on down by order of finish.
Calvin picked up 103 points during the spring sports season as its women's lacrosse team reached the second round of the NCAA III Tournament while its men's track and field took 20th at the NCAA III Championships.
Combined, 11 of Calvin's 21 sports teams scored Directors' Cup points during the 2016-17 academic year.
