Calvin Track and Field Athletes Set to Kick Off Competition at NCAA III Championships;
Calvin Track and Field Athletes Receive USTFCCCA Great Lakes All-Region Honors

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

The Calvin men's and women's track and field team will have a combined seven individuals competing at this week's NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Set to compete on Thursday are senior Lauren Strohbehn in the women's 10K at 9:45 a.m., senior Michaela Meckes in the women's discus at 10:30 a.m., junior Andrew Philipose in the men's 10K at 10:45 a.m. and freshman Caleb Ferguson in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase prelims at 4:30 p.m.

MORE MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

Six members of the Calvin men's track and field team have received Great Lakes All-Region honors as named by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association. Those six individuals are seniors Zac Nowicki and Jordan Kramer, juniors Andrew Philipose and Ethan Valentine, sophomore Brendan VanHouten and freshman Caleb Ferguson.

In order to receive all-region accolades, individuals needed to be ranked in the top five of their respective event on the NCAA III performance list.

Kramer is from Pewaukee, Wisconsin. He is a graduate of Lake Country Lutheran High School. He was ranked third in the Great Lakes Region in the 5,000 meters (14:33.97) and fourth in the 10,000 meters (30:46.81).

Nowicki is from Comstock Park. He is a graduate of Grandville Calvin Christian High School. He was ranked fourth in the Great Lakes Region in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:13.36).

Philipose is from Mount Prospect, Illinois. He is a graduate of John Hersey High School. He is the top-ranked runner in the 5,000 meters (14:20.18) and is ranked third in the 10,000 meters (30:11.05). He is scheduled to compete in both events this weekend at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Valentine is from Mason, Ohio. He is a graduate of William Mason High School. He had the top performance in the Great Lakes Region in the 400 meters this spring with a time of 47.46. He will compete at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships later this weekend in the 400 meters.

VanHouten hails from Grand Rapids and he is a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School. He was ranked fourth in the Great Lakes Region in the discus (157-2) and fifth in the hammer throw (172-6).

Ferguson is from Naperville, Illinois. He is a graduate of Neuqua Valley High School. Ferguson was ranked third in the Great Lakes Region in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:08.69. He will compete in the steeplechase at the national meet later this weekend.

MORE WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

Meckes is from Bay City. She is a graduate of Saginaw Valley Lutheran High School. She is the top ranked individual in the Great Lakes Region in the discus with a throw of 160-4. She will compete at the national meet tomorrow in the discus at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Strohbehn is from Stillwater, Minnesota. She is a graduate of St. Croix Preparatory High School. She is ranked fourth in the 10,000 meters (36:10.99) in the Great Lakes Region. She will compete in the event tomorrow at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Love is from Kentwood. She is a graduate of East Kentwood High School. She is ranked fourth in the Great Lakes Region in the shot put with a throw of 43-2 1/2.

Dyksen is from Hawthorne, New Jersey. She is a graduate of Hawthorne High School. She is tied for the top spot in the Great Lakes Region in the 100 meter hurdles (14.44) and ranked fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.14). She will compete in the 100 meter hurdles this weekend at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Rozell is from Grand Rapids and she is a graduate of Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern High School. She is ranked fourth in the Great Lakes Region in the javelin with a throw of 126-8.
