Calvin Sending Seven to NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

The Calvin men's and women's track and field team will be sending seven individuals to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships next week in in Geneva, Ohio at the Spire Institute.
Representing the Calvin men's team will be juniors Ethan Valentine and Andrew Philipose and freshman Caleb Ferguson, . Representing the Calvin women's team will be seniors Lauren Strohbehn and Michaela Meckes, junior Jenna Dyksen and sophomore Katie Diekema
The following are capsules of the seven individuals competing for Calvin:
MEN'S TEAM
ANDREW PHILIPOSE - (Mount Prospect, Il./John Hersey HS) - Philipose will be making his second trip to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He will compete in the 10,000 meter run where he is seeded 10th (30:11.05) and the 5,000 meters where he is seeded 10th (14:20.18). Philipose also competed in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships this past March.
ETHAN VALENTINE - (Mason, OH/William Mason HS) - Valentine will be making his third consecutive trip to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He will compete in the 400 meters where he is seeded 3rd (47.46). He is a three-time All-American, having earned All-America honors in the 400 meters outdoors in 2015 and 2016. He was an All-American in the 400 meters at the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships in March. He was the MIAA's Most Valuable Runner for indoor track and field this past winter.

CALEB FERGUSON (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) - Ferguson will be making his first trip to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Ferguson will compete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. He is seeded 13th in the event (9:08.69).

WOMEN'S TEAM
LAUREN STROHBEHN - (Stillwater, MN/St. Croix Preparatory HS) - Strohbehn will be making her third consecutive trip to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete in the 10,000 meters where she is seeded 20th (36:10.99). A year ago she placed third in the 10,000 meters at the national meet to earn NCAA III All-America honors.
MICHAELA MECKES - (Bay City, Mich./Saginaw Valley Lutheran HS) - Meckes will be making her first appearance at the NCAA III Championships. She is the fourth member of her immediate family to qualify for the national meet in track and field as her older brothers Nate Meckes (shot put and discus), Josh Meckes (long jump) and Aaron Meckes (shot put) were previous national qualifiers. Michaela Meckes is seeded fourth in the discus with a throw of 160-4. She is a three-time MIAA champion in the discus.

JENNA DYKSEN - (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne HS) - Dyksen will be making her first appearance at the national meet. She will compete in the 100 meter hurdles where she is seeded 10th (14.44). Dyksen was the MIAA's Most Valuable Runner for indoor track and field this past winter.

KATIE DIEKEMA - (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) - Diekema will be making her first appearance at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete in the 1500 meters where she is seeded 19th (4:34.25).
