MHSAA Girls Basketball Finals Coming to Calvin's Van Noord Arena;
Wolfe and Keane Named to All-MIAA Second Team in Baseball;
John Van Noord Qualifies for NCAA III Men's Golf Championships

MHSAA BASKETBALL ANNOUNCEMENT

Calvin College has been selected to host the 2018 MHSAA Girls Basketball State Championship weekend.

The announcement was made earlier this morning by the MHSAA.

The 2018 MHSAA Girls Basketball State Championship weekend will take place March 15-17 inside Van Noord Arena on the Calvin College campus. The MHSAA Girls State semifinals are scheduled for March 15 and 16 with all four state finals slated to take place on March 18.

It marks the first time Calvin College will serve as host of an MHSAA State Championship event.

"Is is an honor for the Calvin College community to host the MHSAA girls basketball state championship weekend," said Donna Joyce, Calvin's Business Development Manager. "We can't wait to welcome teams and their fans, and our goal is to provide first-rate hospitality to all who visit our beautiful campus next March."

Calvin will host the finals with the assistance of the West Michigan Sports Commission.
"The West Michigan Sports Commission is excited to be working with Calvin College in bringing another MHSAA Final to the Grand Rapids area. Our community embraces high school sports like no other and the MHSAA Girls Basketball Finals will find the Van Noord Arena at Calvin College to be a great home for this highly competitive event."

Calvin's Van Noord Arena is a 4,800 seat facility that opened in January of 2009. It has hosted the NCAA III Women's Basketball Tournament Finals in 2015 and 2017 as well as the NCAA III Women's Volleyball Tournament Finals in 2015. The venue will host the NCAA III Women's Volleyball Tournament Finals again this coming November.

BASEBALL

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Two members of the Calvin baseball team were named to the All-MIAA Second Team on Tuesday morning. Colton Wolfe and Jonathan Keane earned All-MIAA honors in 2017.

Colton Wolfe

A senior from Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Wolfe is earning All-MIAA honors for the third-straight year. He landed a spot on the second team at the utility spot. Wolfe had a batting average of .351 in MIAA with 34 hits. He finished MIAA play with eight doubles, three triples and five home runs. Wolfe tallied 19 RBI against MIAA opponents.

Jonathan Keane

A sophomore from Brookfield, Wisconsin, Keane is earning All-MIAA honors for the first time in his career. Keane was named to the All-MIAA Second Team at the pitching position. On the mound, Keane recorded a 4-3 record in MIAA play. He was third in the MIAA in strikeouts with 47 and led the MIAA in shutouts with two. With his bat, he had 27 hits, with six doubles and two home runs.

MEN'S GOLF

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - John Van Noord will compete at the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships.

"It's a great honor for John Van Noord to be recognized among the best players in Division III," said Calvin men's golf head coach Brian Bolt. "It's been an honor to coach both John Van Noord and Ben VanScoyk, who have been pushing each other as teammates since freshman year, and their performances have been nearly identical for three years. It's too bad that Ben could not also get a bid, but he is excited for John, as is the rest of the team. We are grateful that John will get a chance to represent Calvin, the MIAA, and our region at the NCAA national tournament."

The competition will take place at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The four-day tournament will start on Tuesday, May 16.

A junior from Troy, Michigan, Van Noord recorded a 72.69 average on the year. He is the first individual to represent Calvin at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.

Van Noord is one of five individuals to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships
