WOMEN'S TENNIS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Claire Spoelhof claimed Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) women's tennis Player of the Week honors on Monday for matches through April 18. Spoelhof helped the Knights improve to 9-6 and 3-1 in the MIAA with a 9-0 victory at Albion. This is the first time in her career being named MIAA Player of the Week.
"Claire has been a great leader for our team," said head coach Kevin Van Haitsma. "She's been a three year captain for us. Claire has shown improvement each year, and has had a great last few weeks. Claire helped lead us to a big conference win last week, and I'm thrilled to see her honored as MIAA Player of the Week."
Spoelhof, a senior and native of Holland, Michigan, earned two points for Calvin in the Knights 9-0 victory over Albion. Spoelhof and freshman Anna Asfour defeated Chrissy Gauss and Lauren Rasmussen at No. 1 doubles, 8-5. She then downed Lauren Rasmussen at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-2.
Spoelhof is 3-1 in the MIAA at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in 2017.
Spoelhof and the Knights return to action on Tuesday against Adrian.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association named Emily Cefaratti the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week in women's lacrosse for games through April 16. This is the fourth time in her career and second time this season that Cefaratti has earned MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors at Calvin.
"Emily is working hard to continue to develop her game," said Calvin head coach Blake Boehm. "Even though this is her senior year, I am still seeing growth and development. She is very deserving of this honor."
A senior from Hinsdale, Illinois, Cefaratti scored nine goals last week in three MIAA games. She also picked up six ground balls and three draw controls.
On Tuesday, Cefaratti tallied four goals and three assists at Saint Mary's in an 11-9 victory. She also recorded five ground balls, two draw controls, and caused three turnovers.
Against Olivet, Cefaratti scored three goals and had one draw control in the 27-0 victory.
Cefaratti finished the week with two goals and four assists in a 19-0 victory against Alma. She caused one turnover and had one ground ball.
Cefaratti and the Knights return to action on Tuesday against Kalamazoo.

MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

Calvin junior Andrew Philipose has been named the MIAA Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. A native of Mount Prospect, Illinois, Philipose is receiving the award for the first time for outdoor track and field.

A graduate of John Hersey High School, Philipose had a career-best performance in the 10,000 meters on Friday night at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
Philipose posted a time of 30:11.05 that currently ranks seventh on the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field performance list.

Philipose is part of a Calvin men's track and field team that is currently ranked 24th nationally.

BASEBALL

Calvin freshman Trevor VanDuyn has been named the MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

A native of Jenison and a graduate of Jenison High School, VanDuyn is receiving MIAA Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time in his career.

This past week, VanDuyn helped Calvin post a 4-1 record as the Knights defeated Illinois Institute of Technology and then took three out of four games in a weekend series with Albion.

Over the course of the week, VanDuyn made three appearances and recorded a save in each appearance. In four innings of work, he struck out five and walked two while allowing just one run which was unearned.
VanDuyn has served as Calvin's primary closer this spring and has a season record of 2-2 along with four saves and an earned run average 2.25.
Calvin returns to action on Friday when it travels to Alma for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
