Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Teams Have Big Performances at MIAA Relays
MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
HOLLAND, Mich. - The Calvin men's swimming & diving team started the season winning four events at the MIAA Relays. There was no team scoring at the event.
The Knights started the evening winning the 200-yard medley relay. The team of sophomore Ben Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant), senior Eli Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant), senior Brett Stoughton (Centerville, Ind./Centerville) and sophomore Jared Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) won with a time of 1:35.21.
Calvin would touch the wall first in the 200 breast relay at 1:51.56, with the team of freshman Fear Churchwell (Athens, Ga./Clarke Central), Eli Holstege, freshman Sam Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant) and sophomore Jacob Lensing (Pella, Iowa/Pella Christian).
In the 3x500-yard medley relay, Calvin took first with the team of Fear Churchwell, freshman Brian Goins (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams) and sophomore Nathan Olberding (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) at 15:15.81.
Calvin recorded a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Ben Holstege, junior Skyler Fish (Ionia, Mich./Ionia), Fear Churchwell and Brett Stoughton finished with a winning time of 3:43.29.
The Knights return to action on Saturday when they host Grand Valley State.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
HOLLAND, Mich. - The Calvin women's swimming & diving team started the season at the MIAA Relays at the Holland Aquatic Center. The Knights won four of the eight relays on Friday evening. There was no team scoring at the event.
The Knights recorded their first victory in the 200-yard back relay. The team of freshman Sydney Boyer (Bristol, Ind./Northridge), freshman Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), freshman Emily Slenk (Zeeland, Mich./Holland Christian) and sophomore Daniella Sugijanto (Walnut Creek, Calif./Northgate) won with a time of 1:53.37.
In the 500-yard free relay, Calvin took first place with the team of freshman Anna Kutschke (Manistee, Mich./Manistee), junior Abby VanHarn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), Sydney Boyer and sophomore Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney) at 4:47.34.
Calvin tallied a first-place finish in the 200-yard fly relay. The team of Abby VanHarn, sophomore Ka'lee Sparks (Otsego, Mich./Otsego), senior Karine Rose (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) and sophomore Kendall Murphy (Modesto, Calif.) touched the wall at 1:53.35.
The Knights touched the wall first in the 200-yard free relay. The team of junior Rachel Mattson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron), senior Adrienne Wesselius (Sioux Center, Iowa/Unity Christian), Anna Kutschke and Abby VanHarn won with a time of 1:39.52.
The Knights return to action on Saturday when they return home to host Grand Valley State and Hillsdale.
