Volleyball Remains Unbeaten - Sweeps Albion on Road;
Men's Golf Takes First On Day One of MIAA Fall Tournament;
Women's Golf Eighth on Day One of MIAA Fall Tournament;
Cross Country Teams Take Fifth at Lansing CC Invite

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Calvin 3, Albion 0

ALBION, Mich. - The No. 1 Calvin volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory on Friday night at Albion. The Knights bounced the Britons, 25-15, 25-22, 25-13. Calvin improves to 15-0 on the year and 9-0 in MIAA. Albion falls to 11-9 and 2-7 in MIAA play. The Knights have now won 23-straight road matches.
"It is never easy to win on the road," said head coach Amber Warners. "Albion really played well tonight. I am really proud of how we did not give up and fought back in the second set."
The Knights would take an early 3-1 lead in the first set, Albion would fight back and tie the set at six. Sophomore Anna Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) would break the tie with a kill and Calvin would go on an 8-1 run to put the set away. The Knights would take the first set, 25-15.
Calvin found itself in a battle in the second set, Albion would push the lead to 20-12. The serve of junior Kristen Vyletel (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) helped cut the lead to 20-17, with a 5-0 run, including two aces and two kills from senior Laura Danhoff (Willard, Ohio/Willard). The serving of junior Jenna Lodewyk (Villa Park, Ill./Timothy Christian) continued to give the Britons defense issues and propelled Calvin to a 24-22 lead. Anna Kamp closed the set at 25-22 with a kill. The Knights closed the set on a 13-2 run.
The Knights jumped on the Britons early in the third set and would not look back. The serve of sophomore Keilahna Castillo (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) helped give Calvin a 5-0 lead. The Knights would not let the Britons get close the rest of the set. Calvin would cruise to a 25-13 victory in set three. The Knights hit .400 in the set and held the Britons to a -.036 hitting percentage in the third set.
Anna Kamp had a game-high 13 kills on Friday and Laura Danhoff notched 11 kills. Jenna Lodewyk finished with 30 assists in the win and junior Emily Blankespoor (Grand Rapids, Mich./South Christian) recorded three aces. Keilahna Castillo led the Knights with 16 digs and freshman Sarah DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian) and junior Tessa Van Laare (Toronto, Ontario/Toronto District Christian) both had three blocks on Friday.
The Knights return to action on Saturday when they resume MIAA play at home against Trine.

MEN'S GOLF

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - The Calvin men's golf team took first place on the first day of the two-day MIAA Fall Finish. The Knights recorded a combined round of 297 strokes, one better than second-place Hope at 298. The Knights now stand in second place in the MIAA, two strokes ahead of Kalamazoo at 1491 strokes.

"I am really happy with how we played today," said head coach Brian Bolt. "We had some great rounds today. It is nice that we were able to put these rounds together. We now have to get ready for Saturday."
Junior John Van Noord (Troy, Mich./Oakland Christian) recorded the lowest round of the day at 70 strokes. Noah Weigel of Hope also recorded a round of 70 on Friday. Van Noord has the third-lowest MIAA total score of the year, averaging a round of 72.8 in MIAA play.
Junior Ben VanScoyk (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) tallied a round of 73 on Friday to sit tied for fifth place.
In 12th place was freshman Joshua Song (Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Bar), who recorded a round of 76.
Shooting a round of 78 was sophomore Sam Kuiper (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), who standing tied for 16th place.
Sophomore Alex DeJonge (Niles, Mich./Niles) shot a round of 79 to finish tied for 19th place.
Junior Alex Wagner (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater) shot an unattached round of 80.
The Knights finish the Fall on Saturday at the MIAA Fall Finish.

WOMEN'S GOLF

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - The Calvin women's golf team opened play at the two-day, 36-hole MIAA Fall Tournament with an eighth place score of 363 strokes Friday afternoon. The MIAA Fall Tournament is once again taking place at the Bedford Valley Country Club.

Sophomore Nicole VanderYacht (Kentwood, Mich./South Christian HS) had the top score on Friday for the Knights, carding a round of 84 that left her tied for 22nd individually.

Senior Amira Bousaab (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) stepped up and had one of her finest rounds of the season, carding a score of 88.

Sophomore Emilee McCusker (Hayward, Wisc./Hayward HS) had 94, sophomore Jessica Zylstra (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) a 97 and sophomore Grace Bolt (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) a 99.

Junior Gen Best (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) had a 97 and senior Katherine Ryan (Haslett, Mich./Haslett HS) a 99.

Hope took first place on Friday with a team score of 299.

Action continues on Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

LANSING, Mich. - The Calvin men's cross country team took fifth at the Lansing Community College Invitational Friday afternoon with a team score of 144 points.

Junior Hendrik VerMeulen (Bright's Grove, Ont./St. Patrick Secondary School) had the top individual performance for the Knights, placing 26th individually in a time of 27:38.

Junior Nathan Brookhouse (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) was 31st (27:50), sophomore Jack Randall (Hopkington, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS), 35th (28:04), freshman Jason Klaasen (Jenison, Mich./Unity Christian HS) 42nd (28:14), freshman Zach Young (Anchorage, AK/Grace Christian HS) 67th (29:04), freshman Ryan Van Appledorn (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) 80th (29:40), senior Mason Swartz (Allegan, Mich./Allegan HS) 88th (30:01) and freshman Jacob Pettinga (Saugatuck, Mich./Saugatuck HS) 90th (30:04).

Madonna University took first place in the team standings with 36 points. Zach Widner won the race with a time of 25:13.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

LANSING, Mich. - The Calvin women's cross country team took fifth at the Lansing Community College Invitational Friday afternoon with a team score of 97 points.

Calvin had a strong one-two punch at the front of its pack as junior Marissa Hielkema (Lynden, Wash./Lynden Christian HS) was 10th (19:33) and senior Alex Childs (Winfield, KS/Rockford Christian HS) 11th (19:41).

Senior Autumn Vonk (Holland, Mich./Zeeland West HS) was 23rd (20:12) and sophomore Breanna Kooiman (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) 33rd (20:30).

Other Calvin finishers included freshman Carly Halm (Brea, Ca./Brea Olinda HS) in 35th (20:35), freshman Emma Schroer (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton Warrenville-South HS) 36th (20:36), freshman Leah Bishop (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) 41st (20:57), freshman Olivia Umlauf (Lowell, Ind./Hanover Central HS) 53rd (21:22), freshman Maddie Van Ness (Hudson, Wisc./Hudson HS) 81st (22:24), freshman Victoria Lenters (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) 90th (22:40), freshman Jenna Gaffner (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) 96th (22:50) and freshman Lindy Anderson (Milan, Mich./Milan HS) 104th (23:04).

Lansing Community College took first with a team score of 43 points. Kaitlyn Arnold of Alma took first place in a time of 18:15.
