Volleyball Sweeps Adrian;
Cross Country Teams Move Up In National Rankings;
Assistant Swim Coach Prepares for Ironman Triathlon

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin volleyball team improved to 7-0 on the year with a 3-0 victory over Adrian on Wednesday night. The Knights won in straight-sets, 25-12, 25-13, 25-13. Calvin remains perfect in the MIAA at 4-0 with the win, Adrian fell for the first time in MIAA play in 2016 and falls to 2-1 and 5-2 overall. Calvin has now swept six-straight matches, 3-0.
I am really pleased with how we played tonight," said head coach Amber Warners. "Tonight was the first time all season that everything seemed to have come together. We now have to get ready for a big weekend."
The Knights would take an early lead on the Bulldogs in set one, taking an early 9-5 lead. The Bulldogs would take the next three point to cut the Calvin lead to 9-8. Calvin would respond with a 5-0 run to take a 15-8 lead. It would be all Calvin from there and the Knights would take the set 25-12. Sophomore Anna Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) tallied five kills in the first set.
The two teams would exchange the lead in the second set until the 11-11 mark, where Calvin would close the set on a 14-2 run. The Knights closed the set behind the serve of junior Kristen Vyletel (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and senior Laura Danhoff (Willard, Ohio/Willard), who recorded five kills and two service aces in the second set.
The third set was all Calvin, the Knights jumped on the Bulldogs to take an early 7-2 lead. After pushing the lead to 15-4, Adrian would not get closer than eight points the rest of the set. Calvin would go on to take the set 25-13.
Calvin hit .344 in the match and held Adrian to a -.023 hitting percentage. Anna Kamp had a game-high 12 kills, followed by Laura Danhoff who hit .524 and had 11 kills. Junior Emily Blankespoor (Grand Rapids, Mich./South Christian), junior Jenna Lodewyk (Villa Park, Ill./Timothy Christian), Kristen Vyletel and Laura Danhoff all had two service aces. Lodewyk had a game-high 33 assists. Sophomore Keilahna Castillo (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) notched 17 digs and Laura Danhoff had four total blocks.
Calvin will travel to Ohio this weekend for the Wittenberg Fall Classic. The Knights will face Heidelberg, No. 5 Juniata and No. 8 Wittenberg.

The Calvin men's cross country team has moved up in the latest poll conducted by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association of America.

The Knights are ranked 17th in this week's poll, up four spots from a week ago.

The Calvin men's team is currently in the state of Washington, preparing to compete at the Sundodger Invitational Saturday afternoon on the campus of the University of Washington.

Calvin College assistant swim coach Kristy Kinser recently participated in the Reeds Lake Triathlon and is busy training for the upcoming Ironman Louisville Triathlon in October.
